Haus des Deutschen Ostens (House of the German East)

The exhibition "Einfach schön?“ (Simply Beautiful?) examines, among other things, folk dance, and traditional costumes, questioning their aesthetic appeal and the ways in which they have been shaped by modern perceptions and ideologies. Using the example of the German-speaking population of Eastern Europe between 1920 and 1960, it will demonstrate how seemingly simple “folk culture” has been, and continues to be, politically instrumentalized. A compact yet highly informative exhibition.
