A precious gem among Munich’s museums, the Collection Schack houses paintings inspired by myths and fairy tales that tell stories of distant lands and bygone eras. The collection assembled by the poet and cultural historian Adolf Friedrich von Schack is one of the most important collections of 19th-century German painting and invites visitors on a journey through the romantic world of images and ideas. Currently, visitors can also enjoy masterpieces from the Neue Pinakothek, which are on display here while the museum is closed for renovation.

8 – 11 pm: “Nachts im Museum: Die Gemälde flüstern zurück – Literatur trifft Malerei” (Night at the Museum: The Paintings Whisper Back – Where Literature Meets Painting)**
Speakers from the Bavarian Talking Book Library are inviting visitors to listen, explore, and discover the literary dimensions hidden behind the light and shadow of paintings and canvases. Through readings and interpretations, they will reveal the stories, emotions, and ideas that resonate within the artworks. From 8 to 11 pm, museum visitors will be able to enjoy a refined auditory experience that will bring art and literature into dialogue.

Painting of a young couple sitting closely together beneath a tree. The woman rests her head on the man’s shoulder and holds an open book on her lap. Both look down at the pages.
