The Long Night of Munich’s Museums
Saturday, 21st October 2006
Full of innovations and classics, the eighth Long
Night of Munich’s Museums turns October into the hottest
cultural month of the year. In the previous years, the so-called "Long
Night of the Munich’s Museums" attracted a lot of visitors
and became one of Munich’s most popular cultural events.
This is a perfect opportunity to explore Munich’s art scene
in an unusual, entertaining, and comfortable way for locals and
tourists, alike. On Saturday, October 21st, nearly 100 museums,
collections, cultural institutions and galleries will open their
doors to visitors from 7 pm until 2 am, most of them offering specially
organised programs like exhibitions, discussions, live music, readings,
and movies in honour of the evening. Special shuttle buses on four
different routes will link all the participating locations. Almost
all of Munich’s big museums will participate with a broad
variety of
attractions: the Alte Pinakothek (old masters) and the Neue Pinakothek
(from the19th century), the Pinakothek der Moderne (the new museum
of modern arts with its spectacular architecture), the Deutsches
Museum Verkehrszentrum (transport technology: steam locomotives,
cars and bicycles), the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus
(the former villa of Franz von Lenbach with works by the artist
group "Der Blaue Reiter"), but also smaller museums and
galleries offer in addition to their permanent exhibits lots of
music (for instance: experimental, jazz and classical music), theatre
and parties, like e.g. the Hotel Bayerischer Hof, Munich's finest
hotel, which will host a big open end party in its Night Club with
some of their most excellent musicians and DJs. A few of the museums
offer a special program for children (4-14
years) in the afternoon from 2 pm until 6 pm.
The ticket costs 15€ and will give you access to all museums,
including the shuttle buses. Furthermore the ticket allows as many
trips as you want with Munich’s public transportation from
12 pm until 8 am next morning. Tickets and brochures (only in German)
are available at the participating museums, the sales outlets from
MünchenTicket, as well as at the Munich City Information on
the main square Marienplatz. For further information please check
the programme on the World Wide Web www.muenchner.de, send an e-mail
to museumsnacht@muenchner.de or call 089 / 30 61 00 41.
